Hookshot Haul — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026

This privacy policy describes how the Hookshot Haul app for iOS and Android (“the app”) handles your information. The app is developed and published by Chalke Customs (“we”, “us”).

Information we collect

The app does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address or contact details. The following data is handled on-device, by us, or by third-party services:

  • Game progress. Your best haul and deepest dive in each mode, and which of the 48 species you have collected, are stored on your device.
  • World rankings. If you choose to join the leaderboards, the app sends your score or depth, the mode, how long the run lasted and, for a Daily Drop run, the date of that day's water to a leaderboard service we run ourselves, together with the display name you chose and a player identifier. The identifier is generated at random on your device; it is not your device's advertising identifier and is not linked to any account. There is no default name — the app asks you for one once, and until you give one nothing is sent and nothing is stored about you. Display names are shown publicly on the leaderboard and are screened automatically, so please do not put personal information in yours. You can set or change yours at any time from the RANKS screen.
  • Advertising data. The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising identifier, where you have allowed tracking), coarse ad-interaction data, and diagnostic information to serve and measure ads. See Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses advertising data.
  • Backup advertising (Unity). When Google AdMob has no ad to show, the app may show a full-screen ad or a banner ad from Unity Ads instead, served through Unity LevelPlay. Unity may then receive the advertising identifier (on iOS, only where you have allowed tracking), device information such as the model, operating system and language, how you interact with the ads, and your IP address. Unity uses this to serve and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud. See Unity's Game Player and App User Privacy Policy.
  • Approximate location. The advertising SDKs receive your device's IP address, which may be used to estimate the general area the device is in. This is an approximation drawn from the network connection, not a position from your device: the app never asks for location access and does not use location services.
  • Diagnostics. Aggregate crash and performance data may be collected by the advertising SDKs to keep the app and ads functioning correctly.

App Tracking Transparency

On iOS the app asks for your permission before tracking. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, your device's advertising identifier is not shared with AdMob or Unity and you will see non-personalised ads instead. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Android has no equivalent prompt; there you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings > Privacy > Ads.

Advertising and consent

In regions where consent is required (such as the EEA and UK), the app presents a consent form powered by Google's User Messaging Platform before showing personalised ads. You can decline personalised ads and still play the game. In those regions Unity ads are shown only if the choices you make in that form allow Unity as an ad partner; otherwise the app does not show Unity ads. You can change your choices at any time from the PRIVACY CHOICES board on the app's main menu. Ads are never shown during a run.

Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data retention and your rights

We hold leaderboard entries — a display name, a randomly generated player identifier, and the scores submitted against it — on our own infrastructure, for as long as the entry remains on a board. We hold nothing else about you: no account, no email address, no contact details, and nothing that identifies the person behind a name. If you never give a display name, we hold nothing at all. To have your leaderboard entry removed, email us at hello@chalkecustoms.com.au with the display name you play under and we will delete it.

Data handled by Google (AdMob) and Unity (Unity Ads and LevelPlay) is retained under each company's own policies, and you can exercise your privacy rights directly with them. You can also reset your device's advertising identifier at any time in your device settings, and remove all local game data by deleting the app.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
